Malta’s national cycling team fell short of reaching the podium during Tuesday’s individual time trial events at the 2025 Games of the Small States of Europe, held on the challenging 17-kilometre mountainous course of Ordino El Serrat.
In the men’s event, Andrea Mifsud delivered Malta’s best performance, finishing fifth out of 26 participants with a time of 20:40.18, 1 minute and 5.87 seconds behind the gold medallist Andreas Miltiadis of Cyprus, who clocked 19:34.31. The podium was completed by two Luxembourgish cyclists, who claimed the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Mifsud was followed by Bernard Galea in ninth place, while Daniel Bonello finished 12th, Aiden Buttigieg 15th, Jacob Schembri 17th, and John Camilleri 19th.
In the women’s individual time trial, no Maltese cyclists managed to place in the top three. Out of 16 competitors, Deborah Schembri recorded the fifth fastest time at 22:41.64, 2 minutes and 2.59 seconds behind gold medallist Marie Schreiber of Luxembourg.
Jessica Pratt concluded the race in 10th place, her sister Emma Pratt finished in 15th position, while Diana Muscat came in 14th.
Despite the lack of medals, the Maltese cyclists showed competitive spirit on a demanding course and will be aiming to bounce back in the upcoming events.
