Team Malta celebrated a remarkable double podium in the women’s 1500m final held at Estadi Comunal Track, as Gina McNamara and Mireya Bugeja secured silver and bronze, respectively.
McNamara ran a solid race to finish second with a time of 4:29.52, while Bugeja followed closely behind, clocking 4:33.30 to claim third place. The gold medal went to Luxembourg’s Vera Hoffmann Bertemes, who dominated the race with an impressive time of 4:22.62.
Meanwhile, Jared Micallef delivered a strong and composed performance in the men’s 1500m final, earning a well-deserved silver medal for Malta.

This silver adds to Micallef’s growing list of achievements on the track and reinforces his status as one of Malta’s top middle-distance runners.
Micallef crossed the line in 3:56.24, securing second place behind Andorra’s Pol Moya Betriu, who claimed gold with a dominant time of 3:47.23. Iceland’s Dadi Arnarson took bronze, finishing in 4:07.03.

In the men’s long jump final, Ian Paul Grech secured a bronze medal for Malta with a commendable performance, landing a best jump that placed him third overall. The event was won by Iceland’s Thorleifur Einar Leifsson with a leap of 7.26 metres. Cypriot Grigoris Nikolaou claimed silver with 7.18 metres.

Matthew Galea Soler delivered an outstanding run in the men’s 400 metres final, earning a silver medal for Malta with a time of 47.02 seconds. He was narrowly edged out by Monaco’s Téo Andant, who took gold with a strong finish in 45.91 seconds. Cyprus’ Paisios Dimitriadis claimed bronze just behind Galea Soler, clocking 47.05 seconds. It was a tightly contested race, and Galea Soler’s performance marked yet another impressive result for Team Malta on the track.
This result adds to five medals to Malta’s growing tally and further demonstrates the strength of the nation’s athletes at these Games.
