Inspiring run for Malta in futsal week in Croatia

The Malta Futsal Team is halfway through its commitments at the Futsal Week February Week 2024 currently taking place in the Croatian city of Labin.

So far in this preparation tournament, Malta has been involved in two matches, further two scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

All this is part of the hectic run-up leading to the UEFA European Championship Qualifying Group C where Malta must face Switzerland, Scotland, and Gibraltar in the Preliminary Round.

In Croatia, Malta started superbly beating Switzerland 5-3 in the opening match of this tournament.

The team was in a vibrant mood, managed to capitalize on chances created in front of the goal, and was also positive in possession, making it possible to inflict this unexpected defeat on the Swiss, who we must face yet again in the UEFA Preliminary Group in April.

Maicon Da Silva was the driving force for Malta netting four times, the other goal was scored by his fellow clubmate with Luxol St. Andrews, Marrwan Telisi.

The following day on Thursday Malta had to face San Marino.

The win over Switzerland surely instilled extra confidence for the boys who started well and led 3-1 at the interval.

Perhaps a slight overconfidence could have taken over in the second period, allowing San Marino to come back in the game and score three times, but despite the 4-4 draw this was still a productive run out for the boys, and given more significant international fixtures rolling later this year.

Against San Marino, a brace for Matthew Borg, and other goals for Malta were scored by Celino Alves and Steve Camilleri.
