The latest release of the FIFA Futsal World Ranking, which was made public on Friday, 11th October 2024, unveiled notable alterations in both categories. These changes were influenced by the outcomes of 65 women’s matches and 179 men’s matches.
Undoubtedly, the most significant occurrence in recent months was the FIFA Futsal World Cup Uzbekistan 2024™ (52 matches), which proved to be an overwhelming triumph. The games attracted an impressive crowd of 150,000 spectators, while the live coverage reached more than 175 territories. Teams from all six confederations participated, with five of them making it to the knockout rounds. It is no surprise that such an event had a substantial impact on the rankings.
Brazil, who were crowned world champions not long ago, have managed to maintain their top position and even widen the gap between them and Portugal, who remain in second place. Unfortunately, Portugal’s attempt to defend their FIFA Futsal World Cup title came to an end in the round of 16. Within the top ten, three teams have made considerable advancements – Argentina, as runners-up, rose to third place, while Kazakhstan and Ukraine, both quarter-finalists, moved up to fifth and ninth place respectively. Ukraine’s victory in the match for third place allowed them to surpass France, who remain in tenth place.
The teams that have experienced the most significant upward movement in the rankings are Venezuela (15th, up 6; quarter-finalists) and the Netherlands (26th, up 10; round of 16) from the Futsal World Cup, along with Panama (38th, up 6; group stage), Bosnia and Herzegovina (48th, up 6), Chile (60th, up 31), Latvia (71st, up 16), Denmark (77th, up 5), and Montenegro (86th, up 6).
Even though there have been fewer matches in women’s futsal since May, there have still been notable changes in the rankings. This can be attributed to the OFC qualifiers for the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup™ in 2025, where a total of 12 matches were played in the OFC Futsal Women’s Nations Cup. The remaining fixtures consisted of friendly matches.
Within the top 20 women’s teams, Italy (8th, up 2), Vietnam (11th, up 2), New Zealand (14th, up 12), and Uzbekistan (18th, up 6) have made significant progress. It is also worth mentioning the strides taken by Saudi Arabia (46th, up 5).
In this edition of the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Ranking, there are five teams that have made their debut: Fiji (ranked 62nd), Tahiti (ranked 66th), Norway (ranked 68th), the Solomon Islands (ranked 73rd), and Tonga (ranked 74th).
Except for Norway, all of these teams participated in the OFC qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup in 2025.
