Reigning Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen defended his title after winning the Japanese Grand Prix.
The driver of Red Bull managed to secure the championship title thanks to his excellent driving in difficult conditions, but also the mistake of his main competitor Charles Leclerc, who was fined by losing second and dropping to the third position.
Leclerc went off the track at the very finish, which cost him the fight for the title. In this way, a sufficient difference was made for Verstappen to defend the title in Formula 1 four races before the end.
The Japanese Grand Prix was shortened to 45 minutes due to bad weather, but points were awarded as if it had been completed.
In the overall ranking of drivers, Verstappen is number one with 366 points, his colleague from Red Bull, Sergio Perez, has climbed to second place with 253 points, and behind him is Charles Leclerc with a point less.
Esteban Okon was fourth, Lewis Hamilton fifth, and then Vettel, Alonso, Russell, Latifi and Lando Norris. Ricciardo, Stroll, Tsunoda, Magnussen, Bottas, Zhou, Schumacher, and Gasly, while Albon and Sainz did not finish the race.
The victory in Japan is the 12th in a row for Verstappen this season, the 32nd overall in his career.
