The governing body of Formula One levied a fine of 500,000 euros (£437,000) on the promoter of the U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday due to a track invasion following the race, with 350,000 euros of this amount suspended until the end of 2026.
According to stewards, the suspended portion of the fine is contingent upon the absence of further track invasions at the Circuit of the Americas during any FIA championship events until that deadline. They advised that the non-suspended portion should be allocated to enhancing motorsport safety through the FIA safety department and instructed the promoter to provide a formal plan for remediation by the year’s end. Reports indicated that around 200 individuals scaled a small fence, dropping approximately two metres to the ground between the pit straight grandstand and debris barrier. They then navigated under the debris fencing, climbed over a wall more than a metre high, and entered the main straight while cars were still completing their cool-down lap after the chequered flag.
It was observed that in its 12 years of hosting Formula One, such an invasion had never previously occurred at this track.
