Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has praised his teammate Max Verstappen for his fantastic results during the first part of the season in the Formula 1 championship.
The two-time world champion scored his eighth victory in a row, and his tenth this season, on the “Spa Francorsham” track. Verstappen also brought his team the 13th victory in a row, thus further breaking the record achieved by Red Bull last weekend in Hungary, overtaking the one achieved by Ayrton Senna and Alan Prost for McLaren.
Verstappen started from sixth position this weekend, but he proved why he drives with number one in his car.
“I think we achieved a great result for the team.” When Max broke into first place I knew that it was only important to finish the race in the leading two positions and secure the best possible placement. Verstappen had an exceptional pace after the tire change,” Perez said.
“We were careful, we didn’t want to strain the car too much. It was like that throughout the entire race. The difference between Max and me was bigger than usual because we had to be careful when it became clear that we would occupy the two highest steps on the podium. Verstappen has done an incredible job, he’s very talented and he always gets the most out of it. He does that weekend after weekend, which is really impressive,” concluded Sergio Perez.
After his double victory this weekend, Verstappen leads the drivers’ championship with 289 points. Behind him are Perez with 171 and Alonso with 139 points.
The next race will be held in the Netherlands on August 27.
