Oscar Piastri Commits to Long-Term Future with McLaren

Australian Formula One star Oscar Piastri has secured a multi-year contract extension with McLaren, reinforcing his long-term commitment to the reigning constructors’ champions ahead of the season opener in Melbourne this Sunday. The 23-year-old was already signed until 2026, but this new deal ensures his continued presence with the British team for years to come.

Piastri enjoyed a breakthrough season last year, finishing fourth in the championship and securing his maiden F1 victory in Hungary before adding another win at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. With McLaren expected to carry their strong form into the new season, Piastri is poised to challenge teammate Lando Norris—who finished runner-up to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in 2024—for the 2025 world title.

Piastri: “Proud to Represent McLaren”

Expressing his excitement over the extension, Piastri credited McLaren’s belief in him as a key factor in his rapid rise.

“It’s a great feeling knowing that I’m part of McLaren’s long-term vision,” Piastri said. “The team put their trust in me when we signed in 2022, and the journey we’ve been on over the past two seasons to bring McLaren back to the top has been incredible.

“There are so many talented and special people working at McLaren who have helped me become a Formula One race winner so early in my career. I’m very proud to continue representing this legendary team for many years to come.”

McLaren’s Confidence in Piastri

McLaren CEO Zak Brown hailed the extension as an easy decision, emphasizing Piastri’s value to the team both on and off the track.

“It’s fantastic to confirm Oscar’s extension with McLaren,” Brown said. “Not only is he an incredibly talented driver, but his work ethic and cultural fit within the team made it a no-brainer to keep him in papaya.

“We’ve got the strongest driver lineup on the grid, and Oscar has been a massive asset in our journey. His contributions were crucial in securing the 2024 constructors’ championship, and we’re excited to see what we can achieve together in the coming years as we push for more world titles.”

With McLaren’s growing momentum and Piastri’s continued development, the young Australian is well-positioned to be a major force in Formula One for seasons to come.
