One-Two for Mercedes as George Russell outpaces Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris

George Russell outpaced Mercedes colleague Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris in a rain-soaked final practice for the British Grand Prix.

Silverstone experienced heavy morning rainfall, which ceased before practice commenced. Mercedes promptly demonstrated prowess in the chilly, damp conditions.

Russell clocked in merely 0.035s faster than Hamilton, whilst Friday’s quickest driver Norris trailed by 0.185s behind the 1:37.529 benchmark time ahead of the qualifying session.

After the three Brits there was a gap of six tenths to Carlos Sainz in fourth and championship leader Max Verstappen was 0.864s behind Russell.

Verstappen had a spin early in the session, while Alpine’s Pierre Gasly also lost control of his car but beached it in the gravel and caused a short red flag.
