Max Verstappen powered to a commanding pole-to-flag win at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday, claiming his first victory of the 2025 Formula One season and a historic fourth consecutive triumph at Suzuka.
The reigning world champion led from the front in a clean, uninterrupted race to secure his 64th career Grand Prix win, finishing 1.4 seconds ahead of championship leader Lando Norris of McLaren. The result narrows Norris’s lead in the standings to just one point, igniting a fierce title fight early in the season.

Verstappen, who had reported early gear-shift issues, controlled the pace from the start and never relinquished the lead after pit stops settled the field. “What an uplifting weekend after a miserable start,” Verstappen said. “Great, great weekend for us.”
Oscar Piastri gave McLaren a double podium finish, taking third place on his 24th birthday, after keeping pressure on Norris in the closing laps. The top six drivers finished in the exact order they started on the grid — a rare occurrence in modern F1.

Despite the overcast skies and damp track, there were no yellow flags, no safety cars, and all 20 cars finished the race — a testament to clean racing and driver discipline.

A notable highlight came when 18-year-old Antonelli briefly led the race, becoming the youngest ever F1 driver to lead a Grand Prix during the pit cycle. Meanwhile, Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda, making his Red Bull debut after replacing Liam Lawson, showed grit to finish 12th, ahead of Lawson in 17th.
Tension flared briefly when Norris accused Verstappen of forcing him off track during a side-by-side pit exit on lap 22. However, race stewards took no further action, allowing Verstappen to resume control unchallenged.

With the season heating up and Verstappen closing the championship gap, all eyes turn to the next round in China as Red Bull and McLaren continue their head-to-head fight for supremacy.
