In a move that has sent shockwaves through the motorsport world, Lewis Hamilton has joined Ferrari, forming a dream team alongside Charles Leclerc. With the Maranello squad narrowly missing out on the Constructors’ Championship in 2024, team principal Frederic Vasseur believes 2025 could mark the Scuderia’s long-awaited return to the top.
Speaking exclusively to Sportmediaset, Vasseur shared his confidence about managing two top-tier drivers in the same garage. “I’m not worried at all about Charles and Lewis,” he said. “Both are incredibly fast, experienced and have immense mutual respect. The competition between them will elevate our performance—we won’t shy away from it.”
A champion’s drive
Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari is more than just a headline-grabbing transfer; it’s a declaration of intent. The seven-time World Champion is laser-focused on securing another driver’s title, and Vasseur sees this as a crucial ingredient for success.
“Winning a championship is entirely different from merely being capable of it,” Vasseur explained. “Once you’ve done it, everything changes. Lewis brings that winning mentality—not just for himself but for the team. It’s a huge boost. His perspective and experience will be invaluable for us.”
The Leclerc factor
As Hamilton brings his wealth of experience to the table, Ferrari’s faith in Charles Leclerc remains unshaken. At just 27, Leclerc is entering his prime, and Vasseur is impressed by the strides the Monegasque driver has made.
“Charles has matured a lot this season,” Vasseur said. “He’s taken a big step forward in terms of race management and overall maturity. He’s learned to handle the highs and lows of a long championship. It’s not always Monza or Monaco—there are tough moments, and he’s shown he can bounce back.”
The team principal is confident that Leclerc’s upward trajectory will continue, making him a formidable partner to Hamilton.
The road to 2025
The countdown to the new season is already underway, with Ferrari set to unveil their 2025 challenger on February 19. Vasseur is optimistic about the team’s prospects.
“The mentality is there, and so are the people,” he said. “I’m confident we’ll have a better season next year.”
Expectations are sky-high, with fans eager to see how Hamilton and Leclerc will push each other—and the team—to greater heights. With both drivers at the peak of their powers and Ferrari seemingly on the brink of rediscovering their championship-winning form, 2025 is shaping up to be a season to remember.
