Alpine have confirmed that Franco Colapinto will remain with the team for the 2027 Formula 1 season.
The 23-year-old Argentine will continue alongside French driver Pierre Gasly after establishing himself as a regular part of Alpine’s line-up during an improved 2026 campaign.
Colapinto has produced the strongest results of his F1 career this season, including a sixth-place finish at the Canadian Grand Prix and seventh in Miami. His performances have convinced Alpine to maintain stability in its driver pairing.
Alpine executive director Flavio Briatore praised Colapinto’s development and said his results in Miami and Montreal had demonstrated that the Argentine deserved to remain in Formula 1 and with the team.
Colapinto said he felt “very happy and settled” at Alpine and was pleased with the progress the team had made compared with the previous season.
Alpine finished last in the constructors’ championship in 2025 but have moved up to sixth after 12 races this year. Gasly also secured a podium in Monaco, although that result remains subject to McLaren’s appeal against the decision to remove his two five-second penalties for pit-lane speeding.
The team’s improved performance has been helped by major changes made ahead of the 2026 season. Alpine effectively abandoned development of its 2025 car to focus on the new technical regulations, while Renault ended its works engine programme and the team switched to Mercedes power units.
Colapinto initially joined Alpine as a reserve driver for the 2025 season after making his F1 debut with Williams during the second half of 2024. He replaced Logan Sargeant at Williams and later moved into Alpine’s race seat after Jack Doohan was demoted following the opening six races of the 2025 campaign.
With Colapinto now confirmed alongside Gasly, Alpine have settled their driver line-up for 2027 and can focus on developing a car capable of continuing their upward progress.
