In a dramatic move, Alpine have announced that Franco Colapinto will replace Jack Doohan for the next five Formula 1 races, starting at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. The team say the decision is part of a plan to rotate the seat and fairly assess both drivers before 2026.
The change follows the sudden resignation of Team Principal Oliver Oakes, with Flavio Briatore stepping in as Executive Advisor.
Doohan, who started his first full season this year, has shown some promise but struggled with crashes and inconsistent performances. His most recent setback was a Lap 1 retirement in Miami.
Colapinto, who impressed during a nine-race stint with Williams last year, will now race alongside Pierre Gasly. He said he’s ready and motivated for the challenge, while Doohan admitted the decision was hard to take but vowed to keep working and supporting the team.
Alpine say they’ll re-evaluate the line-up before the British Grand Prix, as they prepare for a crucial season ahead in 2026.
