Fernando Alonso will continue racing in Formula 1 beyond his 46th birthday after extending his contract with Aston Martin for the 2027 season.
The two-time world champion will remain alongside Lance Stroll, whose contract extension was also confirmed on Tuesday.
The announcement ensures the pair will race together for a fifth successive season, providing continuity as Aston Martin seek to improve their results.

Alonso said he had carefully considered his future but remained confident in his ability and the team’s long-term prospects. “Racing is my life, my passion,” he said.
Stroll also expressed confidence in the team’s resources and staff. Executive chairman Lawrence Stroll said retaining both drivers would bring valuable experience as Aston Martin pursue their ambition of winning championships.
The decision comes during a difficult campaign for the Silverstone-based team, who sit 10th in the constructors’ standings with three points from 15 rounds, all scored by Alonso.
The Spaniard joined Aston Martin in 2023 and has recorded eight podium finishes for the team. He won his world titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006 and has taken 32 grand prix victories during his career.
Alonso has also left open the possibility of continuing beyond 2027. Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, he said his decision would depend on whether he continued to enjoy racing and felt competitive, rather than his age alone.
