Valletta eye first win against in-form Marsaxlokk

Newly promoted Valletta face another tough challenge on Matchday 3 as they take on in-form Marsaxlokk at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Friday evening, with kick-off at 20:30.

Thane Micallef’s side have drawn both of their opening matches, a goalless result against Birkirkara, followed by a 1-1 draw with reigning champions Ħamrun. They were unlucky not to take all three points in the latter match.

Despite solid performances, especially considering they’ve just come up from the Challenge League, captain Brandon Paiber and coach Thane Micallef have both said they’re not satisfied with just two points, believing the team could have easily won both games.

Marsaxlokk, on the other hand, have made a perfect start to the season, winning both of their opening matches. They sit at the top of the table with 6 points, alongside Floriana. However, their opponents so far, Mosta and Naxxar, are seen as less challenging compared to Valletta’s.

Enzo Potenza’s team will be aiming to keep their momentum going, but this will be their first real test. Valletta are hungry for their first win and will be looking to prove they can compete with the top teams in the YoHealth Premier.

The last time these two sides met, Marsaxlokk claimed a 2-0 victory. One of the scorers in that match was Yuri Messias, who, in a twist, will now be lining up for Valletta on Friday night.
