In the final match of Matchday 1 in the YoHealth Malta Premier League, Hibernians take on Gżira United in what promises to be a tightly contested game between two evenly matched sides. Both teams, like many others, made several changes over the summer. Hibernians started their squad rebuild earlier due to their short run in the UEFA Conference League.
Hibernians pulled off a big signing with Romanian goalkeeper Laurentiu Brănescu and added more quality with Charleston Silva dos Santos, Cleiton, Pablo Alves, Pedrão, Duane Bonnici, and just last week, former Mosta defender João Teixeira.
Gżira United have completely reshaped their squad. Notable new signings include goalkeepers Aleksander Lubik and Edoardo Colombo, along with David Xuereb, Lennon Thompson, Maxuell Samurai, Marc Van de Bovenkamp, Pablo Fonseca, Wallace Bonilha, Santiago Martinez, Andre Carlos, and experienced defender Clayton Failla.
The last time these two sides met was last season, when the Maroons came out on top with a 2-1 victory.
