YoHealth Malta Premier – Opening Round – MD6
Marsaxlokk……..….0
Ħamrun Spartans…2
Two second-half goals gave Ħamrun Spartans their third win of the season, putting them temporarily at the top of the table, with all other teams yet to play their matchday six fixtures. This was also Ħamrun’s fourth consecutive clean sheet.
The first half was evenly matched, with the best chance falling to the Spartans, when Salou Thioune had a close-range shot well saved by Marsaxlokk goalkeeper Christopher Mafoumbi.
The game remained balanced in the second half, but Ħamrun finally broke the deadlock in the 84th minute. Substitute Mouad El Fanis scored with a long-range, angled shot that left Mafoumbi with no chance.
Just a few minutes later, Ħamrun were awarded a penalty when N’Dri Koffi went down in the box after a one-on-one with Mafoumbi. Despite there was clearly no contact, referee Ismael Barbara pointed to the spot and Koffi stepped up and calmly scored, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
