World Cup hero Vozinha agrees move to Chilean giants Colo Colo

Veteran Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha is set to continue his remarkable football journey after reaching an agreement to join Chilean giants Colo Colo following his outstanding performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 40-year-old free agent will travel to Chile in the coming days to undergo a medical before completing the move and being officially unveiled at the Estadio Monumental, club president Aníbal Mosa confirmed on Friday.

“Vozinha will be a Colo Colo player. In the coming days he will travel to Chile, undergo the usual medical examinations and then be presented here at the Estadio Monumental,” Mosa told reporters ahead of Colo Colo’s league fixture against Deportes Limache.

Mosa praised the experienced goalkeeper’s performances during the World Cup, insisting he had earned the opportunity to join one of South America’s biggest clubs. He also acknowledged that the transfer would generate considerable commercial interest for Colo Colo.

Although the deal has not yet been finalised, the Chilean club has already fuelled speculation by posting a teaser on social media featuring what appeared to be Vozinha’s distinctive curly hair.

The goalkeeper became one of the surprise stars of the World Cup after helping tournament debutants Cape Verde exceed expectations. His performances earned worldwide recognition as he played a key role in securing a goalless draw against eventual champions Spain in the group stage before producing another inspired display as Cape Verde pushed Argentina to extra time in the Round of 32.

His displays saw him voted into FIFA’s fan-selected World Cup Dream Team, cementing his status as one of the tournament’s standout performers.

Vozinha arrives on a free transfer after leaving Portuguese second-tier side Chaves before the World Cup and now looks set to embark on a new chapter in Chilean football with Colo Colo.
