The victory of the women’s team from Swieqi, which came late in the game, has allowed them to narrow the gap with Hibernians.
Swieqi United secured a dramatic victory over Birkirkara, while Hibernians and Mġarr United settled for a draw in the women’s league.
The race for the title is intensifying, with the Owls now closing in on the leading Hibs, only two points behind. Meanwhile, both Birkirkara and Mġarr are tied at 32 points, trailing the Paolites by five.
In a thrilling finish, Jade Flask scored the winning goal for Swieqi in the dying moments of stoppage time, helping them overcome the reigning champions, Birkirkara.
It was Birkirkara who took the lead with Valentina Rapa finding the back of the net just before halftime.
Swieqi, on the other hand, equalized through Venezuela international Rafanny before Flask’s crucial goal.
In the match between Mġarr and Hibernians, Valeria Villegas put Mġarr ahead in the 26th minute with a goal from Colombian forward.
However, Hibernians managed to level the score just before halftime courtesy of Ileana Farrugia.
