Norway staged an impressive second-half comeback to defeat hosts Switzerland 3–1 in their opening Group A match of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
Switzerland took an early lead in the 28th minute through Noelle Riesen, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to slot home the opener. The hosts held their advantage into half-time, with the scoreline reading 1–0 at the break.
However, Norway responded with determination in the second half. Star striker Ada Hegerberg equalized in the 54th minute, finishing calmly after being set up by Vilde Bøe Risa. Just four minutes later, Norway took the lead when a deflection off Swiss defender Julia Stierli resulted in an own goal, making it 2–1 for the visitors.
Hegerberg then doubled her tally from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, calmly converting to extend Norway’s lead to 3–1. The Swiss side struggled to recover after the quick turnaround, and Norway saw out the match with relative control. Thea Bjelde also impressed with her midfield presence throughout the second half.
The win places Norway in a strong position in Group A, while Switzerland face an uphill task to progress, especially after this home defeat in front of a spirited crowd.
