Malta 1 Luxembourg 0
The Malta WU15 team ended their commitments in the UEFA WU15 Development tournament in the best possible way with a third consecutive victory against Luxembourg. This meant that Malta topped their group in a historic achievement.
It was a straight fight between Malta and Luxembourg for top spot in the UEFA WU15 Development Tournament. Unfortunately, the locals were missing captain Amberley Borg and Katrina Catania due to injury with coach Kirsten Attard bringing in Shanaia Mifsud and Kylie Pullicino with Martina Mendez Vasquez as captain.
The opening minutes were quite sprightly as both sides pushed forward but there was nothing of note in the first half hour with neither goalkeeper remotely troubled. In the first real move of the match on 32 minutes, Kylie Pullicino opened the scoring for Malta with a magnificent effort with her shot easily beating Fernandes da Costa.
Malta saw off the rest off the half with ease as Luxembourg did not really react much after the goal.
The Maltese girls started the second half strongly and had a good opportunity on 62 minutes when Erika Cini received a pass from the left and concluded low with Fernandes da Costa saving easily.
Luxembourg came into their own and put the Maltese goal under pressure on 68 minutes with an effort by Da Silva that ended up just wide. However, the Maltese girls defended well in the last minutes to record a precious victory.
