Newcastle created the first clear opportunity after seven minutes. Lumsden delivered a dangerous cross from the right, finding McGovern, but her effort went wide after she was played in behind the defence.

Inter took the lead in the 26th minute. Malta international Haley Bugeja started the move, playing the ball into the path of Tomasevic, whose low cross found Detruyer. The Inter forward made no mistake from close range.

The Italian side almost doubled their advantage four minutes later when another defensive error allowed Bartoli to deliver a perfect cross towards Detruyer. Her header was well saved by Rendell, denying the forward a second goal.

Inter continued to threaten and nearly added another in the 39th minute when Raphino broke forward before setting up Glionna, whose effort went narrowly wide.

Just before half-time, Glionna missed another excellent opportunity after Detruyer put her through inside the box, but she fired wide.

Inter started the second half strongly, with Glionna finding Bugeja, who sent her shot over the crossbar.

Newcastle then came close to an equaliser in the 50th minute. Substitute Nobbs broke down the wing before finding McGovern, whose close-range effort was brilliantly denied twice by Runarsdottir.

Inter responded almost immediately, with Raphino cutting into the Newcastle area and forcing Rendell into another save.

Newcastle continued to search for an equaliser, with Joel seeing an effort comfortably saved before Gale later found herself through on goal. However, Runarsdottir reacted quickly to prevent the Newcastle forward from finishing.

Bugeja came close to adding a second for Inter in the 62nd minute when her long-range effort narrowly clipped the crossbar. The Maltese forward tried again moments later but sent another effort just over.

Newcastle remained dangerous, with Kiernan producing an excellent individual run in the 70th minute before seeing her shot saved by Runarsdottir.

Kiernan was involved again six minutes later, delivering a dangerous cross towards McGovern, but her first-time effort was directed straight at the Inter goalkeeper.

Inter finally put the result beyond doubt in the 85th minute. Glionna sent a low cross into the area and Polli made no mistake with the finish, sealing a 2-0 victory and the VisitMalta Weekender Cup for the Italian side.
