Manchester United have reportedly considering a move for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez, as the 29-year-old Argentine’s contract with the La Liga club approaches its final year.
Guido Rodriguez, who has been an instrumental figure for Betis and has appeared in all but one game for the team, continues to be at the center of attention as his contract situation remains unresolved.
While Rodriguez expressed his desire to stay at Betis with his family in August, the absence of a contract extension has fueled speculation about his future. If he does not agree to new terms with Betis before the end of the year, he will be free to enter into negotiations with foreign clubs.
According to Estadio Deportivo, Manchester United have been considering the possibility of making a move for Rodriguez in January. United’s head coach, Erik ten Hag, is keen on acquiring the midfielder to boost the team’s chances of securing a Champions League qualification.
Despite Bruno Fernandes’ late goal against Fulham on Saturday, Manchester United currently sits in eighth place in the Premier League, four points behind the fifth-place team. While the team has several midfield options, the struggles of Casemiro in his second season at Old Trafford and Sofyan Amrabat’s performance have left room for reinforcements in the midfield.
Barcelona is also interested in signing Guido Rodriguez, but their ongoing financial fair play (FFP) issues and the reduced La Liga salary cap have limited their transfer activity to free agents and loan deals.
Although Wolverhampton Wanderers were previously linked with Rodriguez, his potential move to larger clubs like Manchester United and Barcelona makes it unlikely for the Midlands team to secure his services.
