United only get a point after a boring match at Old Trafford, with 0 goals

The Manchester United team welcomed the excellent Newcastle to their stadium this season. The match ended goalless, 0:0, with a rather poor football performance at the theater of dreams.

The first half of the year moved more slowly.United did not put too much pressure on the opponent, while Newcastle tried to obstruct the game as much as possible with fouls in the middle of the field, too many drops and holding the game.

However, the Magpies had the first real opportunity of the match. In the 24th minute, Kieran Trippier took a free kick, after which the ball came back to him from the living wall. He passed it to Joelington, who shook the crossbar with a header, and then, after the ball came back to him, the post.

In the 38th minute, United had the first and only chance of the first half. After a great solo breakthrough by Jadon Sancho, the most upbeat player in the ranks of the Red Devils, he passed the ball into the box to Anthony, but his shot was thwarted by the Newcastle goalkeeper, Pope, who gathered his legs in time and prevented the ball from hitting the net. The score was 0:0 at the break.

The second half started in favor of the hosts. In the 47th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo hit the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Ten minutes later, after Ronaldo again had a goal chance, he was brought down in the penalty area. Referee Craig Pawson consulted with the VAR room. However, they assessed that there were not enough elements for the most severe penalty.

Marcus Rashford had the most serious chance until the end of the game in the 95th minute, when, after a great cross from Casemiro, he missed the empty goal with his head from 5 meters. Immediately after that opportunity, the referee blew the whistle for the end of the game, which ended goalless at 0:0.

Manchester United remained in fifth position with 16 points, while Newcastle are right behind them with a point less. In the next round, Erik ten Haag’s team will welcome the brilliant Tottenham, while the Magpies will welcome the caramels from Liverpool, the Everton team, at their St. James Park.
