In a stunning display of tactical brilliance and relentless energy, Bodø/Glimt took a commanding step toward the UEFA Europa League semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Lazio in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.
Playing in front of a passionate home crowd at Aspmyra Stadion, the Norwegian side once again proved that their rise in European football is no fluke. Lazio, heavy favorites on paper, were caught cold by the high-pressing, fast-paced style of the hosts, who dictated the tempo from kickoff to final whistle.
First Half Brilliance
The opener came midway through the first half when Amahl Pellegrino capitalized on a defensive error, coolly slotting the ball past Ivan Provedel after a slick passing move in the final third. The goal sent the crowd into a frenzy and set the tone for the rest of the evening.
Lazio struggled to find rhythm, with Sergej Milinković-Savić and Luis Alberto stifled in midfield by Glimt’s organized pressing. The Italian side managed only one shot on target in the first half, a tame effort from Ciro Immobile that was easily dealt with by Glimt’s keeper Nikita Haikin.
Second Half Dominance
The second goal came shortly after the break. A quick counterattack saw Hugo Vetlesen driving forward before unleashing a low drive from outside the box that took a slight deflection, leaving the keeper no chance. The 2-0 lead was well deserved and showcased Glimt’s clinical edge.
Despite substitutions and a tactical reshuffle from Maurizio Sarri, Lazio failed to break through a disciplined Glimt defense. The hosts continued to threaten on the break, with winger Ola Solbakken causing constant problems down the right flank.
The result puts Bodø/Glimt in a strong position heading into the second leg at the Stadio Olimpico. While Lazio will remain hopeful of overturning the deficit on home turf, they’ll need a significantly improved performance to match the intensity and sharpness of their Norwegian opponents.
For Glimt, this is yet another giant slain in their incredible European journey—a testament to smart management, fearless football, and the power of home support in the Arctic Circle.
