Today, the European Football Union (UEFA) made a decision that the Moldovan Sheriff will not be able to play international matches at home in Tiraspol.
The sheriff, who has strong business and political ties with Russia, will not be able to host Zrinjski from Mostar on July 13 in the first round of qualifications for the Champions League.
“In light of the large-scale military escalation that resulted in the Russian army invading Ukrainian territory, the UEFA Executive Committee decided today that no UEFA competitive match will be played in the Transnistrian region of Moldova until further notice,” the statement said.
“The decision is based on considerations and conclusions consistently made by agencies specializing in international political and strategic analysis,” the statement added.
The sheriff, who has won 20 championship titles in the last 22 years, will probably play domestic matches in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau.
