Valletta FC begin their UEFA Conference League campaign on Thursday evening when they face Polish side Raków Częstochowa in the first leg of the second qualifying round.
The Citizens return to European action hoping to make a positive start, but they face a difficult challenge against one of Poland’s strongest clubs. Raków have built a solid reputation in recent years through their domestic success and regular appearances in UEFA competitions.
Valletta earned their place in this season’s Conference League after lifting the FA Trophy and will be looking to keep the tie alive ahead of next week’s return leg at the Centenary Stadium.
Speaking ahead of the match, head coach Thane Micallef said the team has prepared thoroughly by analysing Raków and studying their players. He also highlighted the strong bond within the squad, saying it gives the team confidence ahead of the encounter.

Captain Brandon Paiber echoed his coach’s confidence, saying the squad has worked hard throughout pre-season and is fully focused on the challenge ahead. He added that the players have adapted well to the pitch and are ready to begin the new season.

The winner of the two-legged tie will progress to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League, with Valletta hoping to produce a strong performance and return to Malta with everything still to play for.
