Marsaxlokk travel to Armenia on Thursday, 16 July, needing a major turnaround against Pyunik in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League first qualifying-round tie.
The Southseasiders are 3-0 behind on aggregate after the opening match in Malta. UEFA’s competition record shows that Marsaxlokk failed to score and conceded three times in the first leg, leaving them with no margin for another slow start in Yerevan.

The first goal is central to any comeback. Marsaxlokk must create early belief without allowing the match to become stretched. Strong set-piece delivery, second-ball reactions around the penalty area and aggressive counter-pressing after possession is lost could all help sustain pressure.
They will also need leadership through difficult moments. European away ties can change quickly, and the Southseasiders must avoid allowing frustration to affect their structure or discipline.
Even if qualification ultimately proves beyond them, a composed and competitive performance in Yerevan would still carry value. These fixtures provide a demanding measure of the standards required in UEFA competition and an opportunity to build experience for future campaigns.

Pyunik begin as clear favourites because of their three-goal cushion and home advantage. Marsaxlokk’s best route back is to score first, keep the hosts uncomfortable and take the tie deep into the evening.
