Crystal Palace make history with first European trophy

Crystal Palace beat Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the UEFA Conference League final in Leipzig last night, winning their first ever European trophy. Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the only goal of the match, tapping in the rebound after the Rayo keeper could only parry a shot from Adam Wharton.

It was a tight affair, with neither side managing a shot on target in the first half. Palace had the better of the second half, and Yéremy Pino came close to making it two when his free kick struck both posts. Rayo pressed late on but couldn’t find an equaliser.
