Young Boys, Red Bull Salzburg and Sparta Prague are all through to the league phase of this season’s UEFA Champions League after a dramatic evening of action across Europe. There were fiery scenes at RAMS Park after a dramatic late winner, an 18-year-old goalscorer in the match between Red Bull Salzburg and Dynamo Kyiv and two goals in the last 10 minutes as Sparta Prague beat Malmo FF.
Alan Virginius scored an 87th-minute winner as Young Boys dumped 10-man Galatasaray out of the Champions League with a 1-0 (Agg 4-2) win at a fiery RAMS Park.
The game looked certain to be heading for a goalless draw after a drab opening 85 minutes, but then the contest came alive in the closing moments.
The Young Boys forward celebrated directly in front of the distraught home fans amid a chorus of boos.
As Virginius turned to run towards the corner flag, Muslera appeared to intentionally trip his opponent, a flashpoint that sparked unpleasant scenes on the sidelines. Muslera was sent off.
The visitors held on to secure the victory and book their place in the league phase of this season’s Champions League.
Red Bull Salzburg cruised into the league phase after a routine 1-1 (Agg 3-1) draw with Dynamo Kyiv.
The hosts took the lead after just 12 minutes when 18-year-old Adam Daghim produced a fine finish to beat Georgiy Bushchan.
However, Vladyslav Vanat struck back for Kyiv 17 minutes later, conjuring a magical strike into the bottom right corner after being put through on goal by Taras Mykhavko.
Kyiv had a fantastic chance to force a nervy finish with 10 minutes remaining, but Mykola Shaparenko blasted the ball wide of the post from the centre of the penalty area.
Sparta Prague scored twice in the final ten minutes to cement their place in the league phase with a 2-0 (agg 4-0) win over Malmo FF.
Lukas Haraslín converted a penalty in the 80th minute to give his side the lead after a quiet match at the epet ARENA.
Haraslín turned provider three minutes later, setting up Amir Rrahmani for his side’s second to seal the win.
