Paris Saint-Germain began their Champions League title defence in emphatic fashion, defeating Slovan Bratislava 6-1 to extend their unbeaten run in European competition to 12 matches.
The reigning champions dominated from the opening stages, although Slovan goalkeeper Dominik Takáč produced several good saves to keep the visitors in the contest.
PSG finally broke the deadlock in the 17th minute. Nuno Mendes’ powerful effort struck the post before Ousmane Dembélé reacted quickest to put the rebound into the net.
Dembélé was at the centre of PSG’s attacking threat again soon afterwards, heading in a second goal after a deflected effort fell into his path. He then turned provider in the 30th minute, delivering an excellent cross for Ferran Torres to finish and make it 3-0.
Torres continued his impressive evening immediately after half-time, producing a composed finish into the top corner to add his second. He completed his hat-trick soon afterwards when he converted from a corner as PSG continued to run riot.
Slovan did manage to pull a goal back through Suleiman Camara, who raced clear before finding the far corner. PSG responded late on, however, with Fabián Ruiz adding a sixth goal to complete a dominant victory.
The result gives PSG an ideal start to their European campaign as they look to become only the fifth club to win three consecutive European Cup or Champions League titles.
The match also marked a historic occasion for Slovan boss Yaya Touré, who became the first African manager to take charge of a team in the main Champions League competition.
