Subs key to Juventus win against Man. City

Juventus secured an important 2-0 victory over Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League, extending their unbeaten run in head-to-head matches to six games.

Both teams have struggled recently, and the match was filled with mistakes, with both sides battling for control early on. Manchester City had more possession, but Kenan Yıldız had the first shot of the game in the 20th minute, coming close to scoring from distance. He also played a pass to Dušan Vlahović, but the striker couldn’t control it.

City began creating chances for Erling Haaland after the 37th minute, but Manuel Locatelli blocked his shot after a lucky break, and Michele Di Gregorio rushed out to stop Haaland’s attempt to chip the ball over him following a brilliant pass from Kevin De Bruyne. After the break, De Bruyne created another opportunity, but İlkay Gündoğan’s shot was blocked by Federico Gatti. Moments later, Vlahović scored a header, outjumping Joško Gvardiol to make it 1-0, with the ball sneaking over the line despite Ederson’s save.

City tried to respond, but were denied an equaliser when Bernardo Silva’s shot hit Danilo, and Ederson awkwardly dealt with a cross from Yıldız. De Bruyne then sent a shot wide, and Di Gregorio made a spectacular save to deny Gündoğan. Juventus took advantage of the situation when they attacked, with substitutes Timothy Weah and Weston McKennie combining to volley in a second goal.

City’s frustration showed when Silva barged into Gatti, but Juventus held firm to secure their first win in five matches, moving up to 13th place in the UCL standings, just two points behind the top eight. Meanwhile, City have only one win in their last 10 competitive matches and are 22nd, just one point above Paris Saint-Germain in 25th.
