Bayer Leverkusen win in the dying moments

In the 90th minute, Nordi Mukiele scored a crucial goal that secured a 1-0 victory for Bayer Leverkusen against Inter, bringing them closer to qualifying for the Champions League.

This win was a major blow for Inter, who had not let in a single goal in their five Champions League matches this season, dropping them to fourth place in the standings after a narrow defeat in Germany. Leverkusen dominated possession with over 60% of the ball and were the better team throughout the game, hitting the post early on through Nathan Tella and coming close again with attempts from Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah, the latter forcing a great save from Yann Sommer.

The winning goal came in the final minute after a scramble in the box, with Mukiele being the one to put the ball in the back of the net. This victory propelled Xabi Alonso’s side to second place in the standings, overtaking Inter and sitting five points behind league leaders Liverpool.

In terms of data analysis, Inter’s defence was finally breached, becoming the last team to concede a goal in this season’s Champions League after facing 97 shots. On the other hand, they failed to register a single shot on target in a Champions League match for the first time since February 2022, when they were knocked out by Liverpool in the last 16. This is also the first time since 2003-04 that Inter failed to hit the target in a group-stage match in this competition. Leverkusen, on the other hand, have achieved a record of three consecutive home wins in the Champions League for the first time since 2011-12, and have managed to do so without conceding a single goal in their European history.
