Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has confirmed that he is close to signing a contract renewal with the Spanish and European champions.
The German’s existing deal at Bernabeu is due to expire at the end of June, but he has expressed his desire to stay with the club.
Despite speculation surrounding his future, Kroos has been a vital player for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season, making 41 appearances and contributing two goals and five assists. His impressive performances have reportedly convinced Real Madrid to offer him a contract extension until 2024, which he is expected to sign soon.
Kroos was recently asked about the situation after helping Real Madrid beat Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night. The midfielder revealed that talks over a renewal are close to being concluded, with everything “on the right track.”
Since joining Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014, Kroos has played 406 times for the club, scoring 27 goals and contributing 88 assists. During his time with the Spanish giants, he has won an impressive haul of trophies, including three La Liga titles, four Champions League crowns, and five Club World Cups.
Real Madrid are still hoping to win both the Champions League and Copa del Rey this season, although they are currently 11 points behind league leaders Barcelona in La Liga.
Kroos’ teammates Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, Dani Ceballos, Luka Modric, Nacho, and Mariano Diaz also have deals with the Spanish champions that expire at the end of the season. While Benzema and Modric are set to extend their contracts, there remains uncertainty surrounding the futures of Asensio, Ceballos, Nacho, and Mariano.
Overall, Kroos’ contract renewal is a significant boost for Real Madrid and their fans, who will be hoping that he can continue to be an influential player for the team in the coming years.
