Spurs Confirm Appointment of Ange Postecoglou as Head Coach

Tottenham Hotspur has officially announced the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as their new manager, signing him on a four-year contract.

The 57-year-old, who enjoyed a successful tenure at Celtic, winning multiple domestic trophies including a treble in the 2022-23 season, becomes the first Australian manager in Premier League history. Postecoglou will assume his new role on July 1.

Chairman Daniel Levy expressed his excitement about Postecoglou’s arrival, highlighting his positive mentality, fast attacking style of play, and track record of player development. Levy emphasized the importance of the link between the academy and the first team, stating that these factors align with the club’s values as they prepare for the upcoming season.

After parting ways with Antonio Conte in March, Spurs had been searching for a permanent manager. Conte’s assistant, Cristian Stellini, briefly took charge but was dismissed after just four games following a heavy defeat to Newcastle United. Ryan Mason then served as interim manager for the remainder of the 2022-23 season, but Tottenham faced setbacks in their search for a permanent successor, with several high-profile names linked to the post ruling themselves out.

Postecoglou’s appointment brings stability to the managerial position at Tottenham. The club has agreed to a contract that will keep the Australian at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2027, with details about his backroom staff to be announced in the future.

With a successful managerial career spanning Australia, Greece, and Japan, including a stint as the Australian national team coach, Postecoglou brings a wealth of experience to Tottenham. He led Australia to AFC Asian Cup glory in 2015 and achieved back-to-back A-League titles with Brisbane Roar. Postecoglou also won the J1 League title with Yokohama F Marinos in 2019 before his tenure at Celtic, where he secured two Scottish Premiership titles, one Scottish Cup, and two Scottish League Cups.

Postecoglou’s primary tasks at Tottenham will be ending the club’s trophy drought, which stretches back to 2008, and reclaiming a top-four position in the Premier League. The team finished eighth in the 2022-23 season, failing to qualify for European competitions.

The future of star player Harry Kane remains uncertain, with Real Madrid and Manchester United reportedly showing interest in signing the England captain during the summer transfer window.
