Inter’s efforts to sign Djed Spence have become increasingly complicated because of Tottenham Hotspur’s financial demands.
The Nerazzurri identified the England international as their preferred candidate to replace Denzel Dumfries on the right flank. Coach Cristian Chivu has reportedly approved the move, viewing Spence’s pace, strength and attacking qualities as well suited to Inter’s system.
However, Tottenham are demanding more than €40 million, with some reports placing their valuation between €40 million and €45 million. Inter would prefer to complete the transfer for closer to €35 million and are reluctant to meet the Premier League club’s full asking price.
Spence is not considered completely unavailable by Tottenham and is believed to be open to returning to Italy. He previously spent time on loan at Genoa and is familiar with Serie A, while competition from Pedro Porro could limit his opportunities in north London.
Inter’s urgency comes after missing out on other targets and losing Dumfries. Chivu wants the new wing-back to join the squad as early as possible so that he can adapt to the team’s tactical demands before the Serie A season begins.
The Italian club are therefore considering alternatives. Former Torino defender Wilfried Singo has entered their shortlist because of his physical profile, versatility and Champions League experience. Vanderson, Guelà Doué and several other options are also being monitored.
Spence remains the preferred target, but unless Tottenham lower their demands, Inter may be forced to change direction.
