Serie A title to be decided on Friday night as Napoli and Inter play simultaneously

The Serie A title race will come to a dramatic conclusion on Friday 23 May, with both Napoli vs Cagliari and Como vs Inter kicking off at 20:45 CEST, the Lega Serie A has confirmed.

Napoli go into the final round of the season holding a one-point advantage over Inter and will host Cagliari at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Meanwhile, Inter travel to face Como, knowing they must better Napoli’s result to snatch the Scudetto.

The scheduling decision follows days of internal disagreement within the Lega Serie A, which led to the temporary suspension of its Council. Napoli had requested a Friday fixture to maintain standard preparation, while Inter had pushed for a Thursday match to gain more recovery time ahead of their Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, scheduled for Saturday 31 May in Munich. In the end, the league, influenced by broadcaster DAZN’s preference, confirmed both title-deciding fixtures would be held on Friday night.

In the event of Napoli and Inter finishing level on points, a play-off to decide the title will take place on Monday 26 May, as per the new Serie A regulations.

Final day fixture plan

The remaining matches from the final round have been split based on their stakes. Bologna vs Genoa and Milan vs Monza, which carry no European or relegation implications, will be played on Saturday at 18:00 and 20:45 respectively.

The rest of the fixtures – including key battles for European places and survival – will kick off simultaneously on Sunday evening at 20:45, featuring:

  • Atalanta vs Parma
  • Empoli vs Verona
  • Lazio vs Lecce
  • Torino vs Roma
  • Udinese vs Fiorentina
  • Venezia vs Juventus

All eyes, however, will be on Friday night in Naples and Como, as one of Serie A’s most closely fought title races in recent memory reaches its conclusion.
