Real Madrid and Como set for decisive Nico Paz talks

The future of Nico Paz has become one of the first major stories of the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid and Como expected to hold decisive talks over the Argentine midfielder next week.

What looked like a straightforward return to Spain is now turning into a difficult negotiation, with both clubs holding different positions.

Real Madrid want to bring Paz back to Madrid after two impressive years in Italy. The Spanish giants have a buy-back clause that would allow them to re-sign the player for around €9 million this summer, with the clause also remaining valid next year at a slightly higher figure.

However, Como believe they already have an agreement that allows the player to stay for another season under Cesc Fabregas.

The player’s own preference could also play a key role. Paz is understood to favour remaining in Como for one more year, especially after the club earned the right to play in the Champions League next season.

At Real Madrid, competition for places is intense. Jude Bellingham is already a central figure, while the arrival of Bernardo Silva has added another world-class option in attacking midfield. That has reportedly left Paz with doubts over how much space he would get at the Bernabeu.

A further season in Serie A, with Champions League football and a leading role under Fabregas, may therefore be seen as the best route for his development.

Real Madrid’s position, however, is clear. Florentino Perez does not want to lose control of one of La Fabrica’s most valuable products. Reports in Italy claim Madrid would be open to allowing Paz to remain at Como, but only if the Italian club completes a permanent deal worth around €60 million.

That figure is considered extremely difficult for Como, especially with UEFA financial rules to respect after qualifying for Europe.

This is where the tension begins. Como do not believe they should have to negotiate a new agreement, while Real Madrid wants to protect the player’s market value and avoid seeing a major asset remain outside their control.

The relationship between the two clubs remains positive, and that could help both sides find a compromise. But there is no doubt that the next meeting will be crucial.

For Como, keeping Paz would be a huge sporting statement. For Real Madrid, this is a question of planning, value and control.

For the player, the decision is more personal. He wants regular football, responsibility and a platform to grow.

Nico Paz has already shown he can be one of the most exciting young talents in Serie A. Now the question is whether his next step will be another year on the lake, or a return to the pressure of Madrid.

One way or another, his future is now firmly at the centre of the market.
