Napoli put in a very strong away performance to beat Lazio 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in a match that also saw three red cards. The win moves Napoli up to second place in Serie A and was their first victory over Lazio since September 2022.
Napoli started the match quickly and took the lead early on. Matteo Politano crossed from the right and Leonardo Spinazzola arrived unnoticed at the near post to score through the goalkeeper’s legs. Lazio defended poorly again just after half an hour, allowing Amir Rrahmani to head in Napoli’s second goal from a free-kick.
Napoli nearly made it 3-0 before half-time when Eljif Elmas hit the crossbar with a header. After the break, Napoli slowed the pace but stayed in control, while Lazio struggled to create chances. Napoli were slightly worried when David Neres had to go off injured.
There were no more goals, but the match ended with drama. Lazio’s Tijjani Noslin was sent off for a second yellow card, before a late clash between Adam Marušić and Pasquale Mazzocchi saw both players shown red cards.
Napoli comfortably saw out the game and are now just one point behind leaders AC Milan. Lazio remain in ninth place.
