AC Milan have shifted their attention towards midfield reinforcements, with Marseille’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg emerging as one of the latest names under consideration.
The Denmark international is expected to leave Marseille and would offer Milan experience, physical strength and tactical discipline in the centre of the pitch. Højbjerg made 32 Ligue 1 appearances last season, registering four goals and five assists, and has previously represented Bayern Munich, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.
A move to San Siro would also reunite him with Adrien Rabiot, with the pair having previously played together in Marseille. Milan believe the 30-year-old could provide leadership and balance as new coach Ruben Amorim reshapes his midfield.
The Rossoneri have already worked on strengthening their attack and defence, but the central area is now viewed as a priority. Højbjerg’s experience in the Premier League, Bundesliga and European competition makes him an attractive option, although negotiations with Marseille have yet to reach an advanced stage.
Meanwhile, Luka Modrić is moving closer to signing a new one-year agreement. The Croatian is understood to be happy in Milan and remains part of Amorim’s plans despite the club missing out on Champions League qualification.
A previous option allowing Modrić to extend until 2027 expired at the end of June, meaning the parties are now discussing a fresh agreement, potentially including appearance-related bonuses. The veteran could join Milan’s squad during their summer tour of Australia once the renewal is completed
