Milan protest reaches the U.S. as fans plan Times Square campaign against Cardinale

The growing discontent among AC Milan supporters could soon cross the Atlantic, with sections of the Rossoneri fanbase reportedly planning a high-profile protest in the heart of New York City aimed directly at club owner Gerry Cardinale.

According to reports in Italy, supporters are exploring the possibility of renting advertising space on the giant screens of Times Square to display two simple but powerful messages: “Save AC Milan” and “Cardinale Out”.

The initiative is understood to have originated from Guido, president of the Milan Club Valle Telesina in Benevento, who has reportedly been in contact with various organised supporter groups, including the Associazione Italiana Milan Club, Curva Sud, Old Clan, and the Milan Club New York.

The idea is to take advantage of the global spotlight currently focused on North America ahead of the FIFA World Cup, which the United States, Canada, and Mexico will host. Supporters hope that displaying their message in one of the world’s most recognisable locations will attract international attention to their concerns regarding the club’s current ownership and direction.

Times Square has become an increasingly popular venue for public messages and advertising campaigns, with individuals and organisations able to rent space on its famous digital billboards. Milan supporters believe the symbolic significance of protesting in Cardinale’s home country could amplify the impact of their message.

Reports also suggest that the initiative may extend beyond Times Square. Organisers are said to be exploring the possibility of purchasing advertising space across other American media outlets, including major television networks and newspapers, in an effort to bring their dissatisfaction to a wider audience.

The protest reflects growing frustration among sections of the Milan fanbase following a disappointing season and continued concerns regarding the club’s sporting strategy. Many supporters believe the Rossoneri have fallen behind domestic and European rivals despite the club’s rich history and global stature.

Whilst no final decision has yet been confirmed, the prospect of Milan supporters taking their protest directly to New York would represent one of the most unusual demonstrations of fan dissatisfaction seen in modern football and further highlights the increasing tensions between parts of the Rossoneri faithful and the club’s ownership.
