Manchester City have agreed a deal worth €55 million (£46.3 million) with AC Milan to sign Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.
The 26-year-old has agreed personal terms and is expected to sign a five-year contract, with the move subject to a medical. The deal also includes bonus payments based on performance-related clauses.
City are aiming to complete the transfer in time for the Club World Cup, which starts on 14 June in the United States. Reijnders is expected to strengthen City’s midfield, especially with Mateo Kovacic out following Achilles surgery. Kevin De Bruyne is also unlikely to feature, with a potential move to Napoli on the horizon.
Reijnders joined AC Milan from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 and quickly impressed. He scored 15 goals in 54 appearances last season and was named Serie A’s midfielder of the season, despite Milan finishing eighth and missing out on Europe.
Known for his composure on the ball and ability to break the press, Reijnders can play both deep and advanced roles in midfield. His versatility and technical ability are seen as a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s style.
Reijnders has been capped 22 times by the Netherlands and is expected to bring more depth and creativity to City’s midfield options.
