Romelu Lukaku has insisted that he still considers himself a SSC Napoli player and has no intention of asking to leave the club despite recent speculation surrounding his future.
The Belgian striker, who spent recent months recovering in Belgium ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup, addressed the rumours during an interview with Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad.
“My love for Napoli remains intact,” Lukaku said.
“I still have one year left on my contract, and in my mind, I am a Napoli player. I am not the type of person who asks to leave.”
The 33-year-old also rejected suggestions of tension between himself and the club, while criticising sections of the Italian media for what he described as exaggerated reporting.

“With Napoli, everything is fine, there are no problems,” he added.
“The Italian media exaggerated things, and that annoyed me a little. I did not come to Belgium on holiday. My intention was simply to recover as quickly as possible for the World Cup, but also for Napoli.”
Lukaku’s comments are expected to calm growing speculation over his future after reports in recent weeks linked the striker with a possible departure following a difficult period in Naples.
Despite the challenges, the former Chelsea FC and Inter Milan forward appears determined to continue his adventure with the club.
