Lazio part ways with Maurizio Sarri after Serie A season

Lazio have confirmed that Maurizio Sarri has left his position as head coach by mutual consent, bringing an end to his second spell in charge of the Serie A club after one season.

Sarri’s final campaign with Lazio concluded with a Coppa Italia final defeat to Inter Milan and a ninth place finish in Serie A. The 67 year old had returned to the club after previously managing them from 2021 to 2024.

During his first spell, Sarri guided Lazio to a runners up finish in Serie A in 2023 before leaving the club due to family matters. His second tenure lasted one season before the latest departure.

Reports in Italian media indicate that Sarri is expected to take charge of Atalanta in the near future, while former Italy head coach Gennaro Gattuso is being linked with the Lazio managerial role.

The change at Lazio comes shortly after AC Milan also confirmed a managerial departure following the end of the Serie A season, reflecting wider coaching changes in Italian football.

Lazio have not yet confirmed a replacement for Sarri, with further announcements expected in due course.
