AC Milan missed the chance to go four points clear at the top of Serie A after being held to a surprising 2-2 draw by Pisa at San Siro. It was almost a historic night for Pisa, who came close to claiming their first-ever away win against the Rossoneri.
Milan started strongly and took the lead in the seventh minute through Rafael Leão, who cut inside from the left and fired a brilliant shot from distance for his third goal of the season. Despite Milan’s dominance, Pisa didn’t have a single shot on target before half-time.
The visitors were given a lifeline just before the hour mark when a VAR check awarded them a penalty for handball by Koni De Winter. Substitute Juan Cuadrado stepped up and calmly converted to make it 1-1.
Milan pushed hard to regain the lead, Leão hit the crossbar, and Alexis Saelemaekers forced a fine save from Adrian Šemper with a long-range effort. But Pisa stunned the home crowd late on, as M’Bala Nzola scored in the 86th minute to give the visitors a shock 2-1 lead.
However, Milan rescued a point deep into stoppage time when Zachary Athekame found the net to make it 2-2. Saelemaekers almost won it for Milan in the dying seconds after a brilliant solo run, but Pisa held on.
Despite the draw, Milan remain two points ahead of Inter at the top of the table, though their rivals have a game in hand. Pisa, meanwhile, move off the bottom after a brave and disciplined performance.
