Serie A leaders Inter brought their three-match winless league run to an end in emphatic fashion with a commanding 5-2 victory over Roma at San Siro, condemning the Giallorossi to just one win from their last seven matches in all competitions.
Roma had been aiming to record back-to-back league victories for the first time since mid-January, but their task became far more difficult after only one minute.
Marcus Thuram chased down a Manuel Akanji pass on the right before squaring for Lautaro Martínez, who got across his marker and fired Inter into an early lead.
Mile Svilar had no chance with the finish, although he did well shortly afterwards to deny efforts from Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Martínez again, preventing Roma’s shaky start from turning into a collapse.
The visitors gradually settled and nearly found an equaliser midway through the first half, when Yann Sommer produced an outstanding save to claw away a Donyell Malen header following a free kick.

Malen then sent another effort just wide from distance, and chances remained limited until Roma drew level five minutes before the break.
Devyne Rensch collected a pass from Matias Soulé down the left and delivered an inviting cross for Gianluca Mancini, who headed home to make it 1-1.

However, parity lasted only until the stroke of half-time, when Çalhanoğlu unleashed a superb strike from over 30 yards that flew beyond the diving Svilar to restore Inter’s advantage.
That goal shifted the momentum firmly back in Inter’s favour, and they made the most of it with two more goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.
First, Thuram won an aerial duel with Rensch to spark a three-on-two move, allowing the Frenchman to combine once more with Martínez, who calmly slotted in his second goal of the evening.
Thuram then got on the scoresheet himself, rising highest to glance Çalhanoğlu’s corner beyond the goalkeeper.
Just after the hour mark, Nicolò Barella collected a loose ball and attempted to release Thuram again, but when the pass ricocheted back into his path, the Roma defence opened up and Barella raced through to score Inter’s fifth.
Roma pulled one back 20 minutes from time when Lorenzo Pellegrini finished neatly after Malen had stretched the Inter back line, although Denzel Dumfries missed a golden opportunity to heap further misery on the visitors before Svilar reacted well to keep out Pio Esposito.
The result means Inter have now won 10 of their last 12 meetings with Roma, while the capital club remain without a win in their last five Serie A away matches.
