Fenerbahçe have issued an official statement denying reports that they submitted a package worth around €100 million to sign Rafael Leão from AC Milan.
The Turkish giants rejected claims that the proposed deal, including both the transfer fee and the player’s salary, had already been presented.
“The claims that we have made an offer of approximately €100 million for Rafael Leão, including the transfer fee and salary, are false,” the club said in a statement.
“No such offer has been made to either the player or his club.”
While Fenerbahçe firmly dismissed the figures being reported, the club notably did not deny its interest in the Portugal international.
According to reports in Italy, Fenerbahçe are preparing to submit an initial proposal to Milan consisting of €5 million for a season-long loan, followed by a €35 million obligation to buy, with additional performance-related bonuses included in the deal.
In the same statement, the Turkish club stressed that its immediate priority remains its upcoming UEFA Champions League second qualifying round second-leg clash against Górnik Zabrze.
“Our only focus is the return leg against Górnik Zabrze and qualifying for the next round,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Leão has already rejected the possibility of moving to Turkey, despite an offer that could have seen him earn up to €12 million per season. The Portuguese winger is expected to remain with AC Milan unless a more attractive proposal arrives before the transfer window closes.
