Newly-crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan continued their celebrations with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Lazio, with Lautaro Martínez playing a key role in another assured performance.
Both managers named rotated sides with the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday in mind, but that did little to slow Inter down. They were in front after just six minutes when Marcus Thuram flicked on a long throw and Martínez finished crisply, making an instant impact in only his third appearance since February.
Inter continued to look dangerous throughout the first half, cutting through Lazio with ease, and doubled their lead in the 39th minute when Martínez linked up cleverly with Andy Diouf before laying off for Petar Sučić to stroke home from the edge of the box.
Lazio tried to get a foothold in the match but rarely threatened goalkeeper Josep Martínez, who was never seriously tested.
Their afternoon got considerably worse shortly before the hour mark when Alessio Romagnoli was sent off following a VAR review for a reckless challenge on Ange-Yoan Bonny. Playing against ten men, Inter managed the game comfortably, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan wrapped things up with a third goal in the 76th minute.
The result extends Inter’s unbeaten run across all competitions to nine matches ahead of the Coppa Italia final. Lazio, meanwhile, can take some comfort from the fact that this was only their second defeat in 11 games.
