Cristiano Ronaldo finally got his hands on the Saudi Pro League trophy after leading Al Nassr FC to a dramatic league triumph, bringing an emotional end to more than three years of pressure, criticism and disappointment in Saudi Arabia.
The Portuguese superstar delivered when it mattered most, scoring twice in a commanding 4-1 victory over Damac FC on the final day of the season as Al Nassr held off fierce rivals Al Hilal SFC in one of the closest Saudi title races in recent years.

For Ronaldo, this title means far more than simply adding another medal to his already legendary career.
When he arrived in Saudi Arabia following his controversial departure from Manchester United F.C. in late 2022, expectations immediately exploded. His signing transformed the Saudi Pro League into a global talking point overnight and paved the way for some of world football’s biggest stars to move to the Middle East.
Players such as Neymar, Sadio Mane, Aymeric Laporte, Marcelo Brozovic and Ruben Neves soon followed, while Saudi clubs spent enormous sums attempting to establish the league among football’s elite competitions.
Ironically, however, the player who revolutionised Saudi football struggled to win silverware himself.
Season after season, Al Nassr fell short despite Ronaldo’s extraordinary goalscoring numbers. The biggest obstacle was always Al Hilal, who dominated Saudi football during Jorge Jesus’ first spell in charge and assembled a squad filled with international stars.
Even Ronaldo’s remarkable 35 league goals during the 2023/24 campaign were not enough to stop Al Hilal from storming towards an unbeaten title-winning season. Cup heartbreak followed too, including a painful penalty shootout defeat in which Ronaldo was left visibly emotional at full-time.

There were moments when serious questions emerged about whether Ronaldo’s Saudi adventure would ever truly be considered a success from a sporting perspective.
Although he continued breaking individual records and remained the face of Saudi football globally, trophies continued to evade him while rivals celebrated around him.
This season, however, everything finally came together.
The appointment of Jorge Jesus proved decisive. The experienced Portuguese coach restored belief inside the dressing room and managed to create a more balanced and tactically disciplined side capable of surviving difficult moments throughout the campaign. Ronaldo also developed an effective understanding with fellow Portuguese international Joao Felix, while the club benefited from greater stability behind the scenes.
Unlike previous years, Al Nassr showed resilience under pressure and maintained consistency during the decisive stages of the title race. Even injuries and growing tensions surrounding Ronaldo’s future failed to derail their momentum.
As the final whistle sounded against Damac, the emotions surrounding Ronaldo were impossible to ignore.
This was not simply another championship for one of football’s greatest ever players. It was validation. Validation of the Saudi project, validation of his decision to leave European football and validation that, even at this stage of his career, Cristiano Ronaldo remains capable of leading a team to major honours.
After years of frustration, near misses and enormous scrutiny, Ronaldo finally conquered Saudi football.
