Former English national team member Rio Ferdinand said that no one should call out footballers who decided to continue their career in Saudi Arabia.
Former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo signed a contract with Al Nassr at the beginning of the year, and numerous football stars have decided to follow in his footsteps and continue their careers in clubs from Saudi Arabia.
“It was great to see David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard playing in America. What a way to end their careers, they get huge money, and they go to a league that is not competitive. They have earned it and have every right to continue their career wherever they want. This is what we saw in the media. That’s what people say, but now when some players go to Saudi Arabia, then it’s a shame, then it’s sad.” Ferdinand pointed out.
He sent a message of support to former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Let the footballers go wherever they want and live, let Ronaldo enjoy it. It’s an adventure, he took his family to a new place, to a new culture. I don’t like to hear anyone criticize him. I think everyone should be treated the same.” concluded Ferdinand.
